Can you use Vercel Hobby for a company or internal tool?
No, according to Vercel's own rules. Its fair use guidelines restrict Hobby teams to non-commercial, personal use and say all commercial usage requires Pro or Enterprise. Vercel defines commercial usage as any deployment used for the financial gain of anyone involved in any part of the project's production, and names a paid employee or consultant writing the code as an example.
That definition covers an internal dashboard an employee built at work, even if only colleagues can open it and it never takes a payment. Vercel's listed examples also include processing payments, advertising a product or service, being paid to build or host the site, affiliate sites and sites with ads. Asking for donations is not commercial. If you are unsure about a case, Vercel asks you to contact its support team; this page is not legal advice.

| Fast Data Transfer | 100 GB a month |
| Fast Origin Transfer | 10 GB a month |
| CDN requests | 1,000,000 a month |
| Function invocations | 1,000,000 a month |
| Active CPU | 4 CPU-hours a month |
| Provisioned memory | 360 GB-hours a month |
| Image transformations | 5,000 a month |
| Web Analytics events | 50,000 a month |

| Projects | 200 |
| Build machine | 2 vCPUs, 8 GB memory |
| Runtime logs | 1 hour |
| Team collaboration | Not included |
What happens when you exceed a Hobby limit?
Hobby has no billing, so there is no overage to pay. Vercel says that in most cases you wait until 30 days have passed before you can use the feature again; Web Analytics collection can resume after 7 days. For a personal project that is an inconvenience. For a tool colleagues rely on, a month-long pause is an outage, which is one more reason a team app needs a paid plan with spend controls.
Vercel Hobby vs Pro
Pro is the plan Vercel intends for professional and business use. The differences that matter most for a team app are commercial use, collaboration and the limits below.

How much does Vercel Pro cost for a small team?
Pro starts at 20 US dollars a month, which includes one seat that can deploy and 20 dollars of usage credit. Each additional person who deploys or manages the team is 20 dollars a month; people who only view deployments are free. Usage beyond the credit is billed on demand, for example 0.60 dollars per million function invocations, Active CPU from 0.128 dollars an hour and provisioned memory from 0.0106 dollars per GB-hour.
As an illustration from those published prices, three developers who all deploy cost 60 dollars a month before any usage beyond the credit. Taxes are extra. Add Password Protection or SAML if your company needs them, and check the current pricing page before budgeting.
How SpringRoll runs team apps without a personal Vercel account
SpringRoll deploys every app into managed accounts it pays for: a Vercel team on Pro and a Cloudflare Workers for Platforms account. You do not need a Vercel account of your own, and a personal Hobby account is never a candidate. SpringRoll's placement checks each plan's terms before its price, so a plan that does not permit a company's app cannot win on cost.
For each app, SpringRoll picks the eligible provider and plan that fits the workload at the lowest estimated cost and writes a placement receipt: the provider and plan chosen, the estimated monthly usage cost with its assumptions, the plan's limits, and every rejected option with the reason. Colleagues open the app from the App Portal, which checks who may launch it, so the people who use it never need provider seats. Review the direct provider URL separately before sharing company data.
Move an app off a personal Hobby account with SpringRoll
If a team tool is already running on someone's Hobby account, move it rather than sending the link further. Open the project in Claude Code, connect SpringRoll and ask Claude to preview the placement before deploying. Then deploy, check the new URL with a colleague in the audience and one outside it, and only then retire the old deployment and rotate any secrets it held.
claude mcp add --transport http springroll https://springroll.dev/api/mcp
# in Claude Code, run /mcp to sign in, then ask:
# "Preview where SpringRoll would place this project and what it would cost each month, without deploying anything. Show me the placement receipt."Frequently asked questions
Is Vercel Hobby free forever?
Hobby is Vercel's free plan with no billing cycle. It stays free within its monthly limits, and most features pause for 30 days when a limit is exceeded.
Can I use Vercel Hobby for a client project?
No. Vercel lists receiving payment to create, update or host a site as commercial usage, which requires Pro or Enterprise.
Does a private internal app count as commercial use on Vercel?
Under Vercel's definition, a deployment built by a paid employee for their company is commercial even if only colleagues can open it. Ask Vercel support about an unclear case.
Do I need a Vercel account to deploy with SpringRoll?
No. SpringRoll deploys to its own managed Vercel and Cloudflare accounts and shows the chosen plan and estimated cost on the placement receipt.
