App Portal

One place to find your team's apps

Turn individual app links into a useful team destination. SpringRoll's App Portal helps people discover the applications available to them and launch the right environment through an access-checked SpringRoll link.

Find the tool for the job

A growing collection of internal tools should be easy to use without knowing who built each one. The App Portal brings available applications into one place, where colleagues can search, browse and reopen the apps they use.

Give each app a useful name and description. An operations dashboard should explain the decision it helps a team make, rather than the framework used to build it. The synthetic example shows how a focused app can have a clear purpose.

Give every app an owner

A working tool still needs someone to answer questions and look after updates. App ownership and support details help colleagues find the right person when a result looks wrong or an improvement is needed.

Creators manage the app's presentation and access from its workspace. Keep the description, owner and intended audience current as the app moves from a personal prototype to a shared team tool.

Share the correct environment

Use Copy app link on the overview and check the audience beside it. Copying a link does not add a person to that audience or change their permissions.

Production and Test links are labelled separately. Share the production link for daily work and the test link for review. An optional Public app page introduces the app with a description and images; publishing that introduction does not change access to the running application.

How access is checked

SpringRoll checks membership, the selected environment and launch access on the server before redirecting a user to a running deployment. Portal discovery and launch checks help people enter through the intended team route.

A direct provider URL uses the provider's own access settings. Protect the application and its data for that direct-access path too. The App Portal does not automatically put every deployment hostname behind SpringRoll authentication.

Development previews are for app managers. Check Production and Test audiences separately rather than assuming that a successful preview launch grants production access.

From deployment to everyday use

After a deployment is ready, open it as an intended user, verify its purpose and share the SpringRoll link. For example, an operations lead could launch a queue dashboard while a builder uses the test environment to review the next change.

Repeat that check when the audience or app changes. Pair the portal with scoped data-product access so the app's data permission is reviewed separately from the employee's permission to launch it.
